It was tight early, but Mid-Prairie ran away in a 60-7 win over Central Lee Friday at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman. The Golden Hawks scored less than two minutes into the game when Kayden Reinier finished a six play 49 yard touchdown drive with a 12 yard run for six. Trailing 6-0 Central Lee intercepted Golden Hawk quarterback Brad Tornow and returned it to the Mid-Prairie 21. Two plays later, Hawk quarterback Adam Boeck went 21 yards on a quarterback draw to give Central Lee a 7-6 lead. It didn’t take long for Mid-Prairie to respond, on their next possession, Reinier again finished the scoring drive with a 12 yard touchdown run. On Central Lee’s next possession they drove to first and goal from the Mid-Prairie four before they fumbled and Josh Wallington scooped it up for Mid-Prairie and rumbled 97 yards for the score. From there the rout was on. Mid-Prairie led 32-7 at the break. The Golden Hawks got a Keegan Gingerich 31 yard touchdown run and a Gingerich 47 yard touchdown reception to close out the half.

Out of the break, Mid-Prairie got a scoop and score from Gingerich on a fumble at 10 yard line, Reinier’s third touchdown run of the night, a Vinnie Bowlin to Jack Baker 11 yard touchdown pass and a Tyler Helmuth eight yard touchdown run to close out the scoring. After the game, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about his team’s night. “Central Lee came out and played well the first quarter. We were flat. Wallington did a nice job of picking up the fumble. He’s a track kid so we thought he could out run some people when he got it. That was a huge turning point. We blocked really well tonight, our running backs ran well tonight. We just wanted to keep the ball on the ground mostly. Tornow made a couple of nice throws also.”

With the win, The Golden Hawks are 3-2 on the year, Central Lee falls to 0-5. Mid-Prairie will next be in action Friday at Bob Murphy Field in Williamsburg to battle the Raiders.
