The Columbus football team looks to open district play with a win when they host Van Buren on Monday. The Wildcats come into the game with an overall record of 1-4 after a 33-8 loss last week to North Cedar. On the season the Wildcats are led by Bawi UK at 20 of 49 through the air for 422 yards, seven interceptions and two touchdowns. His favorite target is Tucker Bright with seven catches for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Will Schwab leads the Wildcat ground game with 304 yards and two touchdowns on 80 carries. Bright leads the Wildcat defense with 28 tackles, four for loss and a sack.
Van Buren comes into the game with an overall record of 0-4. The Warriors were beaten 80-0 by Wayne of Corydon last week. Van Buren has been outscored 204-8 so far this season. On the year, they are led by Lane Davis who is 21 of 41 through the air for 208 yards, two interceptions and one touchdown. Tony Davison has pulled in 13 passes for 139 yards and a score. Cohyn Jury has rushed for 137 yards on 30 attempts to lead the team. Davison leads the Warrior defense with 20 tackles, one for loss and one sack. These two teams met a year ago with Van Buren scoring a 24-6 win. Action begins tonight at 6p.m. at Columbus High School.
