Four cross country teams from the KCII listening area will be in Iowa City tonight at the Kickers Complex for the Creek Classic.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks come into the meet with the girls team ranked No. 1 in the state in class 2A and the boys ranked No. 7. Individually, the Mid-Prairie girls have three runners ranked in the top 30 in the state including No. 1 Marie Hostetler, No. 13 Mitzi Evans and No. 16 Abbigail Evans. For the Mid-Prairie boys Chandler Heshberger is ranked No. 26. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls last ran Monday at the Solon Invitational with the girls taking second place in the team race behind Bettendorf on the strength of an individual championship from Marie Hostetler and the boys were sixth with Chandler Hershberger leading the way in 18th.
The Columbus boys and girls teams last ran at Mount Pleasant last week. The Wildcat boys finished second in the small school division, led by Isaac Acosta with his seventh place finish. The Columbus girls were led by Esther Lian in 26th.
WACO also ran at Mount Pleasant with Jonah Egli leading the boys in 11th place and Grace Conwell the girls in 18th.
Winfield-Mt. Union also participated at Mount Pleasant. The WMU boys were third with Brody Barton leading the way in fourth overall. The WMU girls had Avery Maeder eighth. Joining the Golden Hawks, Wildcats, Warriors and Wolves in Iowa City today are HLV, Louisa-Muscatine, Montezuma, South Tama, Vinton-Shellsburg and CCA. Action begins tonight at 4:30 at the Iowa City Kickers Complex.
