September in southeast Iowa ended on a wet note. Thunderstorms brought rain, lightning and thunder to the area the final four days of September. The storm line produced heavy rainfall ranging from one to six inches. According to the National Weather Service Washington received four-tenths of an inch of precipitation Friday, an inch on Saturday, and nine-tenths of an inch Sunday. Fairfield had two inches of rain on Friday alone. Washington ended September with 6.17 inches of rain, more than the normal amount of 3.6 inches for the month.
More rain is expected throughout the week, and the National Weather Service advises that several rounds of heavy rainfall may produce small creek, stream, and river flooding. If you come across a flooded road, turn around don’t drown. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
