Early reports of Iowa’s fall archery turkey harvest have shown positive signs for the species’ health. Jim Coffey, Forest Wildlife Biologist with the DNR told KCII News that early calls from hunters indicate a scattered but healthy turkey population throughout the state. Fall harvest numbers are typically population indicators for the state’s juvenile wild turkey population. Hunter reports allow the DNR to create an accurate picture of population distribution. If you are planning a hunt, you are required to report your deer and turkey harvest either at iowadnr.gov or by calling the number printed on your harvest reporting tag.
