Cooler temperatures are in the forecast and that will help Iowa’s landscape change colors. This weekend high temperatures will be in the mid-60’s. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, trees in northeast Iowa are beginning to change to yellow and the peak time to see leaves change colors there is October 10th. In southern Iowa, prairies are in bloom and full of fall colors. While overall the treetops are still green, walnuts and elms are starting to turn yellow and drop a few leaves in southeast Iowa. Also, sumac, poison ivy, and dogwoods are starting to show some reds and purples. The best time to see autumn leaves full of color locally will be October 20th.
