Thirty-four people have died in motorcycle wrecks in Iowa so far this year. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, that’s lower than at this time in each of the past seven years. So far this year, the month with the highest number of traffic fatalities has been June with 10. Of the 34 motorcycle fatalities this year, only eight were known to be wearing helmets. The Iowa DOT reminds motorcyclists to make yourself seen by using a headlamp and riding gear that increases visibility, also signal your intentions, and allow space for emergency braking. All motorists are reminded to share the road and respect motorcyclists by giving them a full lane of travel. All drivers should remain alert, check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes of traffic or turning at intersections.
