Iowa is no longer experiencing drought conditions. Last week, 6.5% of Iowa was abnormally dry, including most of the KCII-listening area. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, southeast Iowa’s soil conditions are drier than the state’s overall rates. Iowa’s topsoil moisture is rated at 22% surplus, 74% adequate, and 4% short while southeast Iowa’s is 29% surplus, 44% adequate, 22% short, and 5% very short.
Iowa’s subsoil moisture is 15% surplus, 79% adequate, and 5% short. Southeast Iowa’s subsoil moisture is only one percent surplus, 59% adequate, 32% short, and 8% very short. Southeast Iowa currently has the highest rates of dry topsoil and subsoil moisture among the nine districts in Iowa.
