The Winfield-Mt. Union cross country teams had their home meet on Thursday with a few area schools participating.
On the boys’ side the Wolves headlined the race in third with 95 points and Columbus in fourth with 99. Danville took home the title with 29. Brody Barton had another strong run finishing in sixth in a time of 17:47 and Dane Sweezer was 16th (18:26). Columbus Community’s Isaac Acosta finished seventh (17:50) and Freddy Vergara was 20th (18:50). Lone Tree and WACO did not have enough for a team score, but the Warriors’ Jonah Egli ninth (18:02) and the Lions’ Alberto Cortes claimed 17th (18:41).
Lone Tree’s Macie Bopp continued her strong start to the year placing fourth in the girls’ race in a time of 21:20. Teammate Natalie Patterson also cracked the top 20 in 13th (22:45). Winfield-Mt. Union’s Avery Maeder placed 11th (22:44) on the home course, WACO’s Grace Conwell was 23rd (24:06), and Columbus’ Juvixsa Valdez in 26th (24:25). The Wildcats had the one-team score with 160 points to place seventh.
