Along with the varsity, area middle school cross country athletes competed in Washington’s home meet on Tuesday.
Washington girls headlined the action finishing first out of four teams with 47 points and Sigourney was fourth with 215. Isabella Lujan of Washington claimed a fourth place finish in the two-mile race in 14:01, Taylor Bartholomew was seventh (14:29), and Giselle Marcelino placed eighth (14:40). Gabi Dehne led Sigourney in 39th (17:19) and Taliyah Webster was 40th (17:20).
In the boys race Washington finished third as a team with 82 points and Fort Madison won with 39. Kevin Marcelino crossed the finish line in third with a time of 12:19 and Micah Rees was 16th (13:12). Other top area runners included Highland’s Nicolas Oriano in 56th (16:15) and Sigourney’s Kinnick Palmer in 60th (16:39).
