School goals, staff demographics, and policy changes were discussed at Washington Community School District’s regular school board meeting Wednesday. Lincoln principal Teresa Beenblossom provided a report on the elementary school’s reading and math goals. She explained that they have started using aMath and aReading to gauge students’ ability and progress. The goal for math at the end of the school year is to be 51% proficient and for reading it is to move up nine points to 69.3%.

Staff demographics show that of the 322 staff members 78% are female and 22% are male, 91% are white, 6% are Hispanic, and 3% are other.

The first reading of policy changes, including the requirement of one credit of financial literacy to graduate, was approved.

The board also had a closed session to discuss to suspend or expel a student. The board unanimously approved to expel a student, the name and age of the student were not released. The school board will next meet on November 13th.
