The formula certainly wasn’t rocket science for Mid-Prairie’s win Friday at Eddyville-Blakesburg. Force six turnovers, hold the opponent to 30 total yards, rush for nearly 400. The Hawks checked all of those boxes en route to a rout of Eddyville-Blakesburg on their Homecoming 62-7. The Rockets started with the ball and fumbled on their first play from scrimmage. After the Mid-Prairie recovery, the Golden Hawks went 16 yards on three plays, finished with a Kayden Reinier 10 yard touchdown run, one of his three on the night. Following another turnover, it was Reinier who found the end zone again, this time on a 16 yard touchdown run and it was 14-0 Golden Hawks. Zeb Danner came up with the first of his two interceptions on the night to stop the next Rocket drive and Mid-Prairie put it in the end zone again, this time on a Cael Garvey three yard scoring run to go up 21-0. The Rockets had their lone highlight of the game when Kalen Walker returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown to get within 21-7. From there, the Golden Hawks continued to pour it on, Brad Tornow rushed for an 18 yard touchdown to make it 28-7 after one quarter. In the second quarter Keegan Gingerich took a reverse around left end to score from 48 yards out, Garvey found the end zone on a 12 yard run, and Reinier tacked on his third touchdown to make it 48-7 at the half. With the continuous clock in the second half, Mid-Prairie put together two more scoring drives, Vinnie Bowlin on a 13 yard touchdown run and Nathan Quinby with an 18 yard touchdown. After the game, Mid-Prairie head football coach Pete Cavanagh talked about the night. “Our front five are really good. They have played at a high level all year. If you can’t block the front five it’s going to be tough and they had trouble doing that. You turn them over, you get momentum and give your offense a short field and we cashed in. Defense was definitely the key tonight.”

The Golden Hawks outgained Eddyville-Blakesburg 413 to 30 including 393 to 14 on the ground. Mid-Prairie had 21 first downs to five for the Rockets and were eight of nine in red zone scoring. Reinier finished with 144 yards and three scores on 18 carries. With the win, the Golden Hawks are now 4-3 as they go back home for senior night next week against Davis County.
