Harvest is underway in Iowa. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, last week there were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork and there was the first freeze of the season. Across Iowa, 72% of the corn crop has reached maturity, three weeks behind last year and 15 days behind the five-year average. In southeast Iowa, 82% of corn is mature and 17% has been harvested for grain. Statewide 17% of soybeans have been harvested, 11 days behind the average. In southeast Iowa, 75% of soybeans are dropping leaves and 13% have been harvested. Iowa’s soybean condition is rated at 64% good to excellent and corn is rated at 12% excellent, 53% good, and 26% fair.
