The Kalona city council is interested in making additions to playground equipment at Kalona City Park. At their most recent meeting, the council approved an application for a $30,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation that would add an American’s With Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant play area to the park. Total cost of the proposal is $40,000. It was discussed that with the possibility of 75% of the funds coming from a Riverboat grant, the other 25% would be covered by local option sales tax funds and the city’s parks and recreation budget. There is also interest from the council involving the Mid-Prairie School District in the project for their input on specific equipment and design.
