Sigourney-Keota has steamrolled their opponents in every game thus far, but the competition stiffens in the last two weeks of the football season and that starts tonight at Wapello.
The Cobras (7-0) continue to put up eye-popping numbers in the ground game, as their 3,012 rushing yards is second in the entire state. JD Stout is a big reason why with 1,214 yards and 19 touchdowns. That rushing attack will be put to the test against an Indian defense that gives up just 15 points a game. That side of the ball has carried them to a 4-3 record and after back-to-back wins they are still in the playoff hunt. Ricky Pforts has 51 tackles on the season and leads the offense with 945 rushing yards. Cobra head coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports slowing him down is a huge key. “He absolutely gashed us last year and they beat us on senior night. We have had this game in the back of our minds for a year now and we will be ready to go. They are a well coached team and we always have close games with them.”
The Cobras were ranked 14th in the latest RPI rankings for class 1A and that would come into play if they fail to win their district. The chance to stay unbeaten gets underway at 7 p.m.
