It was over as soon as it started Friday. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team turned Senior Night into a party from the opening whistle against Davis County, pounding the Mustangs 63-6. Mid-Prairie took the first possession of the game and scored on a 15 yard Kayden Reinier touchdown run. After a Mustang fumble, the Hawks again put points on the board when Brad Tornow connected with Jack Baker on an 11 yard touchdown pass to double the lead. After another Mustang three and out, Reinier found the end zone for the second time and he would add another first quarter touchdown as would Cael Garvey to make the score 35-0 Mid-Prairie after one quarter. Three more touchdowns went on the board for the Golden Hawks in the second quarter as they continued to roll. Garvey found the end zone a second time, Vinny Bowlin broke a long touchdown run and the Golden Hawks moved lineman Isaac Boucher into the backfield and he carried the ball in for six, giving Mid-Prairie a 56-0 lead at the half. The second half was more of the same, the Golden Hawks tacked on one more touchdown and Davis County got their lone points of the night in the last two minutes of the game. After the contest, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about his team’s effort. “Defense has played well the last few weeks. Our front five are playing at a really high level. Our seniors are a special group. It’s nice to send them out with a big win like that. We were even able to give senior Isaac Boucher a carry and have him scored a touchdown, he’s earned it. All of those seniors have done well, we are proud of them and they have left their mark at Mid-Prairie.”
Mid-Prairie honored 10 seniors on Senior Night, nine who were involved in the action and Colton Allen who would have been a senior on this year’s team but passed away last summer. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 5-3 on the year, they will wrap up the regular season next Friday when they travel to Albia.
