The Class 1A volleyball regionals start today and a lot of KCII area teams will look to advance in the playoffs.
In region eight, Winfield-Mt. Union (18-12) will open the postseason hosting Burlington Notre Dame (17-18). The Nikes are riding a five-game win streak and the Wolves will have to slow down Katy Stephens and her 272 kills. Keota (4-16) will play host to Tri-County (1-21). In their first meeting last month, the Trojans had the upper hand in four sets with every set going down to the wire. WACO (21-11) and Highland (3-19) clash for an area showdown in Wayland. The Warriors finished the regular season strong winning six of their last eight and they swept the Huskies in a tournament earlier in the year. The winner of that game will play either Sigourney (7-18) or North Mahaska (15-11). The Savages won the South Iowa Cedar League meeting in September in straight sets. Lone Tree (5-20) is competing out of region seven and they make a trip to Springville (16-16). Both teams have some confidence, as the Lions won their final two games and the Orioles won five of six.
All games start at 7 p.m. this evening.
