As kids decide what to dress up as for Halloween, plans are being set for the annual Trick-or-Treat in downtown Washington. Trick or Treat Around the Square is being organized by the Washington Chamber of Commerce and will be held on Halloween night. Chamber Event Coordinator Alisha Davis says many businesses will be set up on the square, handing out candy and toys as there are some taking part in the Teal Pumpkin Project.

She says there are advantages to having all of the activities in one place, “I think it’s nice because you don’t have to get your kids out of the car. And now that I have kids I understand it’s hard to do that. And sometimes it’s cold, last year we got really lucky and it was really nice and warm, so I’m hoping for that again. But I think it’s just nice to have it all in one area. It’s very safe. There’s a lot of people around. Also, we have other activities going on.” There will be free pony rides, hayrack rides, and a meal, as well as free games and activities in the Washington YMCA.

Trick or Treat Around the Square runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with spooky music provided by the KCII Big Red Radio. The City of Washington’s official Trick or Treat hours are 5-8 p.m.
