In November, voters in the Mid-Prairie School District will make a decision whether to renew the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funding for the district. This fund has served the district since 1990. According to Iowa law, the levy must be reauthorized every 10 years. The current levy expires in 2021. Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider spoke this week about why the district is putting the levy on the ballot now and what they are asking for. “The reason we are bringing it up now is because this is the last regular school election before the levy expires. So by doing it now we are saving the Mid-Prairie taxpayers the expense of a special election. We are asking for the same rate that we have had for last 30 years, so this is not a tax increase, it is just continuing what we already have.”
Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th. Early voting is available at the Washington County Auditor’s Office or by mail.
