Cross Country teams around the state put their season on the line today, as they compete in state qualifying meets.

Washington runs in Solon for a class 3A meet that includes the number one ranked team on the boys’ side in Clear Creek-Amana and many ranked individuals. Head Coach Stefanie Haworth previews the challenge ahead. “We know there is several ranked runners, but if we do what we have all season we will be fine. I told them just go out and run with confidence. Everyone has the same goal in mind and I am excited to see them accomplish them.” Evan Horak and Lance Sobaski could have a chance to qualify for state, as they finished two-three at the Southeast Conference meet last week. Hannah Rees led the girls with a 14th place finish.

Columbus Community, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Keota, Lone Tree, WACO, and Winfield-Mt. Union all make a trip to the Iowa City Kickers Soccer Park for a class 1A meet. The Ravens’ Leah Bontrager, the Huskies’ Madison Thomann, and the Lions’ Macie Bopp all cracked the top six at the SEISC meet. Columbus boys showed their depth with a fourth place team finish and WMU was right behind in fifth.

Sigourney is the only area class 1A team that travels to Marshalltown and Mason Moore is coming off of his second SICL Championship last week. The top three teams and 15 individuals at each meet qualify for state next week in Fort Dodge.

All locations will kick things off at 4 p.m. this evening.
