A nearly $2 million building improvement project is moving ahead in the Winfield-Mt. Union School District. The school board approved three bids for portions of an HVAC system replacement including $1.368 million to Brockway Mechanical and Roofing of Burlington for mechanical needs, $288,000 to Tri-City Electric of Davenport for electrical work, and $216,000 to Myers Construction of Mediapolis for general trades. Estes Construction of Davenport is overseeing the project. Contractors will meet in February to finalize the timeline for the project. Preliminary timelines have work beginning in April, continuing through the summer and finished by the start of the 2020-21 school year.
This project will be funded by bonds issued by the district that were approved earlier this fall including $2.34 million in infrastructure sales, services and use tax revenue bonds and $1.5 million in general obligation school capital loan notes. A $4.7 million bond issue for improvements was on the ballot this spring for the district but failed by 10 votes.
