The new Washington fire station is nearing completion and was the site of a Main Street Washington sweep. Thursday Fire Chief Tom Wide, Mayor Jaron Rosien, and City Administrator Brent Hinson met with volunteers from Main Street Washington for the ceremonious sweep. Main Street Washington director Sarah Grunewaldt shared what it felt like to end the year’s swing of sweeps at the fire station, “It’s really exciting when we do sweeps. You know, it’s watching our town grow and progress, and the fire station has been such a project that has been dreamed about for so long, and it’s fun to watch them come to fruition. It’s fun to watch the fall come in and it get cold, and we’re getting geared up for the holidays. But at the same time we’re turning over a new leaf, and really watching the community just keep moving forward.”
Construction began on the fire station last fall. The contract was awarded to Bushong Construction for $2,454,000, which was under the initial estimated budget. Once the fire station is complete, the current fire department building will be remodeled to add more space to the police station and city hall.
