The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team ended the season with an exclamation point Friday at Albia, pounding the Blue Demons 77-13. The Golden Hawks scored the game’s first 21 points. Kayden Reinier punched in a pair of first quarter touchdowns on runs of 22 and two yards along with a Brad Tornow to Chris Miller 22 yard touchdown throw Mid-Prairie was up 21-0 early. Albia responded with a 90 yard drive that ended with Blake Chance finding Blake Stewart for a 10 yard touchdown to pull the Blue Demons within 21-7. It was all Mid-Prairie after that as the Golden Hawks poured on 56 unanswered points the rest of the way during contested action. The Golden Hawks would get three more rushing touchdowns from Kayden Reinier to run his total to five in the game, a safety, and three touchdown runs for Vinny Bowlin.
The Golden Hawks outgained Albia 645 to 223 including 537 to 43 on the ground. Mid-Prairie was also six of six in red zone scoring. The 77 points scored by the Golden Hawks is the most in a single game in program history, breaking the previous record of 72 scored in 1997 against Wilton. Reinier finished with 272 yards on 20 carries with five scores. Bowlin had 141 yards on seven carries with three scores. Tornow was six of nine through the air for 108 yards and a touchdown. After the game Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about the night. “I thought we played pretty well. We gave up a couple of deep ones but we had a good game plan and our kids executed it. We were able to run the football. First half helped set up our play action pass as well. A lot of guys had a lot of carries. Kayden and Vinny looked good in the backfield. We mixed things up and got a lot of guys in. It’s great for the team to be able to get a lot of guys in and see them have success. There is a lot of unselfishness with this team. That also helps build depth for the future.”
With the win, The Golden Hawks end the season at 6-3, a three game improvement over 2018’s 3-6 final mark.
