One of the biggest Henry County rivalries took place in Winfield on Friday, as WACO upended Winfield-Mt. Union 64-36 to close the 2019 football campaign.
The Warrior offense was stymied in last week’s loss to Lone Tree, but they weren’t going to make it two in a row putting up 43 first half points led by three touchdown passes and one on the ground from Nik Coble. A pair of Andrew Brady rushing scores and a Christian Gerot 78-yard kickoff return kept the Wolves close, only trailing 43-28 at intermission. WACO turned on the jets in the second half scoring three times in the third headlined by two more passing touchdowns from Coble. That included a six-yard reception to Elijah McGhoan and a 17-yard pass to Robert Frazer. Brady reached the end zone once again for WMU in the fourth, but it was not enough, as WACO seized area bragging rights. The Warriors had 503 yards of total offense led by Coble going 19 of 27 for 331 yards and five touchdowns. Drew Kissell was his main target with three receptions for 116 yards and two scores. Brady had the three rushing touchdowns and Gerot recorded 110 yards on the ground.
The Warriors end the season 4-5 and the Wolves are 1-8.
