A ribbon was cut for the ceremonious opening of the Kewash Trailhead at the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center. On Tuesday, the ribbon cutting was held by the Washington Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors along with Washington County Conservation Director Zach Rozmus, Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien, and City Administrator Brent Hinson. This project includes the trailhead at Kirkwood with a shelter, as well as a paved trail spur from Kirkwood past Willow Pond and connects with the main portion of the Kewash Trail.

Rozmus said the project has been a nice example of collaboration, “This project more than any others that are going on here in the Washington County area, it’s a really great example of multiple entities coming together to kind of have that common goal. You know, we have a lot of support behind the Kewash right now, and it’s good to also partner that with the City of Washington. And then also, Kirkwood has been a great addition to this community, and to kind of continue to highlight that relationship moving forward, you know that’s been great to kind of partner with this trailhead. And I’m going to tell you, if you come out here on the weekend or during the week, there’s already people parking here and getting right on the Kewash. It’s definitely serving its purpose. And although it was a long project from beginning to end, it’s one that was definitely well worth the goal.”

Rozmus added that the contractors who worked on the project did well. Hinson also thanked the retired conservation director Steve Anderson for his work and former WEDG Director Ed Raber for writing grants and securing funding for the $300,000 project.
