The football season came to a close for Washington on Friday night, as they ran into a buzz saw that is #1 ranked Western Dubuque falling 42-10 on the road in the first round of the class 3A playoffs.

After a three and out by Washington to start the cold and slushy evening, the Bobcats marched right down the field capped off by a Calvin Harris 10-yard touchdown run. They added on later in the quarter on a Ben Bryant six-yard score that pushed the lead to 14-0. Washington gained a little momentum with a minute before half on a 27-yard field goal by Zac Stout, but a long ensuing kickoff led to another Harris score to make it 21-3 at the break. The Bobcats continued to add on in the second half, but the Demons continued to fight and found the end zone in the final minute of the game on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Luke Turner to Spencer Sotelo. “Head Coach James Harris tells KCII Sports despite the loss he is proud of his team for their work this year. “There is nothing for our kids to hang their heads about. Only 16 teams make the playoffs out of 54 and that is special to be one of those teams. It was a great year.” Turner finished with 165 yards rushing on 30 carries and Ethan Hunt had three receptions for 33 yards. Brady Knutson and Dillan Sanders led the defense with nine tackles apiece. Western Dubuque had four guys with over 50 yards on the ground led by Harris’ 131 and he reached pay dirt four times.

Washington closes the year 7-3 officially and 8-2 without the forfeit in week four. They say goodbye to 12 seniors.
