Sarcoma research at the University of Iowa received a $100,000 donation from the Courage Ride. The annual bicycling event raises funds for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Over the past 15 years, the Courage Ride has raised over $610,000 for sarcoma cancer research and makes up 85% of all sarcoma seed grant funding at the university. These funds have helped fund research studies and support one of the largest sarcoma tissue banks in the Midwest. The check was presented in October.
The annual bike ride is held each August in the countryside between Kalona and Iowa City. This year’s event had a record number of attendees with 537 cyclists from 10 states. Courage Ride was founded by Jackie and Tom Bailey of Riverside, Iowa in 2005 to honor the courage of their son Seth, who passed away at age 25 after battling sarcoma for eight years.
