The Columbus Community School District will partner with an engineering firm from Cedar Rapids for a control program to investigate asbestos and other harmful substances. Shive-Hattery will examine buildings in the district for asbestos, lead-based paint, air quality and other issues while developing a removal plan if any are found. The district was fined $2,600 by OSHA earlier this fall for failure to abate asbestos in the elementary and secondary school buildings.
