An eye-popping 15 Sigourney-Keota football players were recognized for their play on the gridiron this fall, as they were named to all-district teams.
The Cobras had a remarkable nine players named to the first team. Dawson Baumert and Hunter Schwab were recognized for their work upfront, as they paved the way for the second best rushing attack in class 1A with 3,499 yards on the season. JD Stout finished as the top rusher in the district with 1,490 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns while Sam Sieren was fourth with 1,122 yards and 13 scores. The Cobra defense also brought the tenacity including Payton Schauf, as his three solo sacks led the league and fellow lineman Nate Schuster was also recognized with his six tackles for loss. Brady Duwa recorded nine interceptions as a safety that ranks first in the state, Zeke Webb managed 26.5 tackles as a linebacker, and Wyatt Sieren had three interceptions.
Second team selections included Sam Menke, Bryce Greiner, Cade Molyneux, and Cecil Sypherd. Menke and Greiner provided depth for the offensive line, Molyneux tallied 197 yards on the ground with five touchdowns, and Sypherd had five tackles for loss.
Honorable mention selections included Cade Streigle and Aiden Schuster. Streigle recorded 15.5 tackles and Schuster was a part of the offensive line.
The Cobras finished 8-1 on the season and second in the district behind Mediapolis.
