During World War II, Iowa housed approximately 25,000 prisoners of war from overseas, and that will be the topic of a presentation in Washington Monday. Linda McCann is presenting her research in a public program at the library at 1 p.m. Monday. From 1943-1946 camps across the state held German, Italian, and Japanese prisoners of war. McCann spoke with people who knew the prisoners or worked with them and will be sharing their memories. Algona and Clarinda were the main camps with about 3,000 prisoners each, but there were about 17 camps statewide.
