sigourney-3

The Sigourney girls’ basketball team has posted at least 18 wins in three consecutive seasons and they look to keep that trend moving upward this winter with a lot of key pieces returning.

Megan Stuhr is the headliner returning for her senior year, as her 13.8 points per game last season led the team including 103 steals and 26 blocks. Kaylee Weber provides a solid one-two punch with 11.4 points and 5.5 rebounds a game. Makenna Hammes is back as a senior, as she tallied 5.9 points a night for the 19-4 Savages last season. They do lose some speed with the graduation of a few track stars including Summer Barthelman and head coach Zach Tremmel tells KCII Sports expect a more methodical offense this year. “In the past we have been super athletic and pushed the ball, got a shot up quick, and played lights out defense. Now we are more of a bigger team with the advantage inside and I don’t think you will see as much pressing as the past. We will be more methodical, pound the ball inside, and limit the amount of mistakes.”

The first look at the Savages is tomorrow when they scrimmage with Pekin.
