The Highland School Board turned their attention to a wastewater solution for the district at their most recent meeting. The district is not currently in compliance with ammonia or E. Coli levels for wastewater treatment set forward by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The board has been researching different alternatives to reach compliance including construction of a leach field. Matt Wildman from HR Green attended the meeting, telling the board that the DNR is extending the deadline for the district to submit a plan for a project to reach compliance. Wildman will bring project cost estimates to the board’s meeting in December. Preliminary estimates for the project were figured to be more than a half million dollars. The district has until July of 2022 to get within acceptable parameters for wastewater levels.
