An experienced bunch returns for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team this winter, but they will need a lot of players to step up in the absence of a few key individuals.
The Wolves lost their two leading scorers from a year ago with Liana Sweezer graduating and junior Jenna Buffington out with an injury. Buffington led the team with 10.2 points and 10.7 rebounds a night for a 5-17 team last season. Kyndal Townsley and Jami Wilkerson will look to pick up the slack and lead the backcourt. Townsley averaged 3.8 points per game as a sophomore and Wilkerson paced the squad with 44 assists and 46 steals. Farrah Nelson will bring some height to the post and looks to improve off of 2.7 points a contest including shooting 41% from the floor. Other players that saw significant minutes last year and return include Kayla Edwards, Madie Anderson, Molly Miller, Ali Cockerham, and Jobey Malone.
The Wolves open the year Friday against New London.
