At their first meeting of December, the Keokuk County Supervisors passed an ordinance to allow ATV/UTV operations on county roadways. This regulation brings county ordinances in line with state code. Under this ordinance a registered ATV or UTV may be operated on the paved, or the shoulder of paved, and gravel of secondary roadways in the county. They would not be allowed to operate in the ditches of these roadways, on Level C roadways, or before sunrise or after sunset. The vehicles must adhere to a 35mph speed limit, have proof of insurance, and have a lighted headlight and taillight. Operators must be at least 16 years of age and those who are 16 or 17 must take and pass an Iowa DNR approved education course.
