Lone Tree protected their home gym on Tuesday night and swept Hillcrest Academy in a girl/boy doubleheader that was heard on KCII.
In the girls game Lone Tree’s pressure defense proved to be too tough to handle, as they turned over the Ravens early and often en route to a 34-10 halftime advantage. Ball movement in the half court and second chance points allowed them to extend the lead in the final two quarters and stay unbeaten with a 62-31 win. Kasey Chown cleaned things up down low finishing with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Josie Mullinix and Holley Johnson each had 10 points apiece to help the Lions move to 4-0. The Ravens drop to 1-2 and Yani Gutierrez led them with 14 points while Esther Hughes had 13.
In the nightcap the guard court was on display for both teams, as the Lions came out on top 70-64 in another classic battle between these two schools. The Lions got out to an early lead and kept the Ravens at arms length most of the night including a seven-point lead at the break. Hillcrest Academy could not get any closer than seven points until four minutes left in the game they quickly turned a 14-point deficit into four after a 10-0 run. When the Lions needed a bucket they turned to old reliable Keegan Edwards, as he delivered down the stretch and capped off his senior debut with 30 points including four threes. It was the Edwards vs Eli Ours show all night, as the Raven junior kept them close with 28 points. Lone Tree starts the year 1-0 and Hillcrest Academy is 0-1.
