A historical survey of Washington’s brick West Washington Boulevard will be done ahead of water improvements. The Washington City Council approved a proposal for technical services for the West Washington Boulevard. The work is under the State Historical Society of Iowa’s Technical Advisory Network program. The program helps potential grant recipients and provides guidance once certain grants have been provided. The city is considering boring a new water main along the boulevard and fixing the brick work in the area where breaks have occurred. City Administrator Brent Hinson said that when bricks have been removed for underground work, the city has kept the bricks to reinstall them. The survey will look at the historic street and provide documentation on observations and suggested remedial actions.
