A conference for young women farmers aims to inspire, educate and empower those entering agriculture and Washington County 4-H was represented. The 5th Annual Grow Conference in Ankeny was hosted by FarmHer with over 300 people in attendance. The event is for 16-22 year old women. Washington County 4-H alumna Lexi Marek envisioned the event as part of an Iowa 4-H scholarship while serving as an intern for FarmHer. It has since grown nationally. Washington County 4-H has had financial support from Barry Johnson LLC and daughter Emily Corder, as well as the Women in Ag Advisory Board for the past five years to take youth to this event. Attendees heard from empowering and educational speakers while being introduced to leadership skills. Five Washington County 4-H members attended.
