Hillcrest Academy hosted Louisa-Muscatine Friday night in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader in Kalona. Each school scored a win. In the girls game L-M raced out to an early lead and was never challenged in a 66-23 victory. The Falcons scored the game’s first 11 points and led 25-2 after one quarter. The continuous clock was enacted at the start of the third quarter. The Falcons were led by 20 points from Kylie Sanders. The Ravens top scorer was Yani Gutierrez with 11, all in the fourth quarter. With the loss, Hillcrest falls to 1-3, Louisa-Muscatine is 4-0.
In the boys contest, the Ravens got the first win of the season 60-39. The game was tight through the first half with the Falcons up 16-11 after one and Hillcrest holding a slim 25-22 lead at half. The Ravens exploded out of the locker room, pouring in 21 unanswered to pull away for the win. After the game, Hillcrest head coach Dwight Gingerich talked about the third quarter. “We found some things that worked. We turned them over. That was a big spurt, 21 points in a row. That was the difference in the game.”
Eli Ours led the way with 21 points including 15 in the third quarter run, Kobe Borntrager ended with a dozen. With the win, the Ravens are now 1-1 on the year.
