The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk basketball teams are back on the floor tonight as Iowa City Regina comes south for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls come into the game at 1-2 on the year, fresh off of their first win of the season, taking down Tipton in a defensive battle Friday 35-28 behind 13 points from Phelan Hostetler. On the season, the Hawks are led by Maddie Nonnenmann at 13 points per game. She also leads Mid-Prairie with 20 total rebounds through the first three games. Amara Jones leads the Hawks with nine assists.
Iowa City Regina comes into the game with an overall record of 2-0 with wins over Tipton and Wilton on the road. In their last game out over the Beavers the Regals took a 53-38 win with Elly Gahan scoring 15 points and pulling in 15 rebounds. On the year, Gahan leads the Regals at 15 points per game. She has also pulled in a team best 22 boards. Claire Gaarde leads the Regals with nine assists. These two teams split their games a season ago with Mid-Prairie winning 51-44 in Wellman and Regina getting a 39-26 win in Iowa City.
The Mid-Prairie boys are 1-1 on the year with a win over West Liberty and a loss to Tipton. In their last game a 57-48 loss to the Tigers, Aidan Rath had a team best 13 points. Through the first two games of the year, Carter Harmsen leads the Hawks at 13 points per game. Aidan Rath has 11 boards and Brad Tornow 11 assists.
Iowa City Regina is 2-0 on the young season. The top 10 Regals have wins over Tipton and Wilton. In their last game against the Beavers, a 72-48 victory, Ashton Cook paced Regina with 29 points. On the year, Regina is led by Masen Miller at 23 points per game. Miller also has 13 assists to lead the team and Cook has a team best 19 rebounds. These two teams met twice a season ago with the Regals winning both, 61-40 in Wellman and 65-57 in Iowa City.
