Two people were arrested for burglary following a chase through eastern Washington County Thursday. According to the Washington County Communications Office, the initial call of a burglary in the 1700 grid of Walnut Avenue near Ainsworth was made at 9:14 a.m. A man said he caught people on the property stealing and they left in a white Ford Edge. The vehicle was located by officers and a pursuit began. The pursuit started at 135th and Riverside Road, and the Edge ended up getting stuck in a field ditch near 1405 Vine Avenue. The man then fled on foot.

Officers caught and arrested 32-year-old Hector Ivan Lavoz of Cedar Rapids. He’s charged with felony eluding, driving under suspension, failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way, improper use of lanes, speed, burglary in the third degree, theft in the fifth degree, and trespassing.

Also, 20-year-old McKenna Ashley Brockmeyer of Cedar Rapids was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree, theft in the fifth degree, and trespassing. They were both taken to the Washington County Jail. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
