Private surveillance cameras may come in handy for local law enforcement as they investigate crimes. The Washington Police Department has launched a program where individuals and businesses can register their security cameras with the city and Police Chief Jim Lester shares how they may be used, “It will provide a database for us to review when we do have a crime reported. We can go back and look at that database to see if we have a camera in that area, and at that time we’ll reach out to that person and ask that they would review their footage.” The database is private.
