The WACO basketball teams earned area bragging rights on Saturday by sweeping a non-conference doubleheader with Keota.
The Warrior girls picked up their first win with a 63-16 victory. Molly McLaughlin connected from deep four times to pace the team with 14 points, Grace Conwell had 13, and Ellah Kissell added 11. Bailey Sieren led the Eagles with four points. Both teams are now 1-5 on the season.
In a highly anticipated boys matchup, the Warriors utilized a big second half to pull away with a 62-40 win. They led 12-11 after one and 33-26 at the break before outscoring the Eagles 16-5 in the third to put the game out of reach. Braden Hammond had four triples to finish with 19 points while Nik Coble added 15 and a monstrous 19 rebounds. Luke Hammen for Keota recorded 14 points and JD Stout had 12. The Warriors improve to 5-0 and the Eagles are 5-1.
Both WACO teams host Danville tomorrow and Keota faces off with rival Sigourney.
