For the first time in program history, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team participated in an all-girls wrestling tournament at City High on Monday night. The Golden Hawks were one of 21 teams in attendance. The Hawks had five wrestlers compete on the night including Rylee Vercande, Sarah Meader, Mia Garvey, Caitlyn Busch and Madison Kelly. Vercande led the way for the Hawks, winning the individual title with a 3-0 night. She pinned her way to the championship, collecting falls over Ashlynn Miller of North Cedar, Hannah Reel of Dubuque Senior and Kyla Foy of Waverly-Shell Rock in a combined three and a half minutes. Sarah Meader was runner-up after a 2-1 tournament. Meader got wins over Gayle Robinson of Waverly-Shell Rock by fall and a pin against Mayowa Dokun of Iowa City West. Mia Garvey took third place. Garvey finished 1-2 on the night, scoring a fall over Molly Wilson of Iowa City West in 2:27. The Golden Hawks will be back on the mat Thursday night against Fort Madison and Mt. Pleasant at Fort Madison.
