The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams make the long road trip to Cascade tonight to take on the Courgars in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls come into the game with an overall record of 2-3. Last time out, Mid-Prairie topped North Cedar on the road Friday 56-43 behind a season high 22 points from Myah Lugar. On the season, the Hawks are led in scoring by sophomore Maddie Nonnenman at 11.2 points per game. She is also the team’s leading rebounder with 25 boards. Amara Jones leads the Hawks with 22 steals and 18 assists.
Cascade comes into the game with a perfect 6-0 record. The Cougars are currently ranked No. 1 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last game Cascade knocked off North Cedar on Tuesday 74-21. Nicole McDermott leads the Cougars scoring 18 points per game. She’s also the leading rebounder with 34 boards and has a team best 27 steals and 23 assists. These two teams met last year with the Cougars scoring a 50-27 win in Wellman.
The Mid-Prairie boys come into the night with an overall mark of 1-3. The Hawks lost at North Cedar on Friday 67-61 despite 23 points each from Ethan Trimpe and Carter Harmsen. For the year, the Hawks are led by Harmsen scoring 16 points per game. Aidan Rath is the team leader with 27 rebounds. Brad Tornow has a team best 22 assists and five steals.
Cascade comes into the night with an overall record of 2-3. Last time out the Cougars lost in Clarence to North Cedar 44-43. On the year, the Cougars are led by Carter Green at 12 points per game. His 28 rebounds are best on the team. Michael Trimm leads the Cougar guards with 14 assists. These two teams met a year ago in Wellman with Cascade taking a 53-40 win.
