It was a tough road trip Thursday for the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams as they were beaten at Cascade in both ends of a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls fell to No. 1 in class 2A Cascade 77-34. The Cougars got on a roll early offensively and Mid-Prairie had a hard time turning the tide. The Cougars led 19-6 after one quarter and stretched that to 40-21 at the half. Cascade started the second half on a 28-5 run that spanned the entire third frame to put the game out of reach and enact the continuous clock. The Cougars were led by Nicole McDermott with 20 points. The Golden Hawks got a season high 11 points from Colby Rourke. With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 2-4, Cascade stays unbeaten at 7-0.
It was a defensive grind for Mid-Prairie in the nightcap as the boys fell by a 56-33 score. The Hawks found themselves down 12-5 after one quarter and on the short end of a 25-9 score at the break. Out of the half, Cascade went on a 14-5 run that put the game out of reach. Brad Tornow led Mid-Prairie with six points. With the loss, the Golden Hawks enter Christmas break at 1-4. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls will next be in action Friday, January 3rd at Northeast Goose Lake High School against the Rebels.
