The Highland School District has finished repairs to their high school gym roof caused by high winds before Thanksgiving. In the immediate time after the initial damage, Highland Superintendent Ken Crawford said local businesses and residents stepped in to help make sure that the roof was covered and would stay watertight. Due to the emergency situation, the district reached out to Grant Wood AEA of Cedar Rapids to be able to bypass the usual bid requirements to accept a bid of $109,680 for repairs from Precision Roofing of Des Moines. Repairs were made to the insulation and rubber membrane of the roof and flashing on the sides was finished later. All repairs are now complete. The gym was out of commission for roughly 12 days and has since hosted wrestling, basketball and winter concerts. While the gym was not usable, Highland moved a home basketball doubleheader on December 6th to Lone Tree.
