The Riverside Volunteer Fire Department and Highland School District are working together to increase the number of firefighters for the city. At the most recent Riverside City Council meeting, Fire Chief Chad Smothers updated the council on the local Fire Cadet Program. Smothers and other officials with the department work with the district’s school counselor to find viable candidates to enter the program to increase numbers within the department. Smothers would like to see numbers raise to the mid-30s.
