The Highland boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Danville Bears last week in a Southeast Iowa Superconference crossover doubleheader. The Highland girls fell to the Bears 51-33. Highland started the game with a 10-8 lead after the first eight minutes, but Danville controlled the game the rest of the way, going on a 15-6 run that lasted the entire second quarter to take a 23-16 lead into half. Out of the break. Danville outscored Highland 28-17 the rest of the way to secure the win. The Huskies were led by Abbi Stransky’s double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Highland boys got by the Bears 69-57. The Huskies started strong, posting 21 points in the first quarter to build a five point lead. The Bears answered by outscoring the Huskies 16-11 in the second quarter, leaving the game tied at 32 going to halftime. In the second half, Highland outscored the Bears 37-25 the rest of the way including 17-10 in the third quarter to grab the win. Mason McFarland finished with a game high 29 points. Zack Lasek had 15, Bill Laughlin 12 and Cole Adamson 11.
