Washington County’s unemployment rate rose slightly from October to November. In the recent numbers from Iowa Workforce Development, Washington County’s unemployment rate went from 1.7% to 1.9%. Other area counties that saw increases include Henry County at 2.4%, Iowa County at 1.6%, Johnson at 1.8%, and Louisa at 2.6%. Keokuk and Jefferson Counties saw slight declines in unemployment. Floyd County had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 4.3% in November. In the Iowa City metropolitan statistical area, which includes Washington County, the area has 1,000 fewer jobs from a year ago. Government has 500 fewer jobs with 100 in state, 300 cut in local, and 100 in federal.
