Winfield-Mt. Union opens the second half of the basketball season tonight when they welcome Lone Tree for an area Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader.

After a 1-4 start, the WMU girls closed the first half on a four game win streak to sit at 5-4. The Wolves are in the top 10 in rebounding for class 1A with 34.9 a night and a big reason why is Farrah Nelson with 9.3. On the flip side, the Lions will look to put a halt to a three-game losing skid, as they are also 5-4. Holley Johnson has been a constant force offensively with 11.9 points a game.

The Lion boys are off to a strong 6-2 start and they tally 65 points a night led by Keegan Edwards with a league leading 22.1. The Wolves are 2-5 and Daunte Oepping averages 12.7 points.

The girls’ game gets underway at 6 p.m. tonight with the boys to follow in Winfield.
